Crieff Household Retail Survey

Perth and Kinross Council have completed the analysis of the Questionnaires sent to all households regarding retail development applications.
At, no doubt, vast expense, the results of the Councils survey confirm the public feeling voiced in April 2004;

Crieff does not want a superstore

Crieff does not want a "bulky goods" unit

Crieff does not want the Games Committtee* to build a retail park in the towns historic, central, public recreational space, the Market Park.

Why the Council didn't simply read the press coverage and letters of objection to the Games Committee's planning application remains a mystery.

However, as we approach the annual Highland Games to be held on Sunday 21 August, even the Games Committee may be breathing a sigh of relief. Although poor Paul Turek (Chairman, Crieff Highland Gathering Limited (CHGL) to give the Games Committee its full complany name) was left to do the talking, it seems clear now that many of the 25 members were themselves appalled at the original proposal. The member who seems to have played a central role in the secret negotiations with West London based property speculator Spencer Cooper, is Perth based car salesman Colin Grassick. All the information now in the public domain names only Grassick as the key contact with CHGL.

Perth and Kinross Council seem to have been particularly keen to see the demise of the Market Park, stating in their report that (subject to fact checking)However, public opinion has saved the day, and lets hope that the Council now live up to their obligations under their lease of the Market Park and improve the day to day management and work with the community to improve the facilities.
